The National People’s Power (NPP) has announced an ambitious plan to hold 21 May Day rallies and processions across 21 districts in Sri Lanka to mark International Workers’ Day.
Speaking at a media briefing held today (Wednesday) at the JVP headquarters in Colombo, Tilvin Silva revealed that the party is preparing for a large-scale nationwide mobilization.
He stated that this year’s May Day events will be organized under the theme “Strength to People’s Power.”
Fuel Crisis Prompts District-Level Events

Tilvin Silva further explained that although the party initially planned to hold a main rally only in Colombo, the ongoing fuel crisis influenced the decision to organize events at the district level instead, prioritizing public convenience and welfare
President Anura Kumara to Attend Nuwara Eliya Rally

A special May Day rally will be held in Nuwara Eliya, bringing together estate workers from the hill country. Anura Kumara Dissanayake is expected to attend this event.
In addition:
- People from Badulla District will join the Nuwara Eliya rally
- Kilinochchi residents will participate in the Jaffna event
- Mullaitivu and Mannar residents will gather in Vavuniya for a regional rally
This marks the first time in Sri Lanka’s May Day history that a single political party is organizing rallies and processions simultaneously across 21 districts. Organizers expect massive public participation across the island.
