A hotel in Dambulla has been fined Rs. 510,000 for selling expired drinking water bottles above the maximum retail price

The Dambulla Magistrate’s Court delivered the verdict today (29), ordering the hotel to pay a fine of Rs. 510,000 over multiple consumer violations

Expired Water Sold Above Maximum Price

Investigations revealed that the hotel sold bottled drinking water with a marked maximum retail price of Rs. 70 at an inflated price of Rs. 100. Authorities also confirmed that the water bottles sold to customers had already expired at the time of sale

Raid Conducted by Consumer Affairs Authority

The violations came to light during a raid conducted by officials from the Consumer Affairs Authority Matale District Office.

Further action is expected to ensure strict compliance with consumer protection laws and to prevent similar incidents in the future.
