A two-month-old baby girl died early on May 27, 2026, in Jaffna, creating deep sorrow among residents in the area. The child, identified as Vidusan Sayisha, lived with her family on Nallur Road, Kachcheriyady, Jaffna.

According to information received, the mother fed the baby milk before the family went to sleep. Later, during the early hours of the morning, the parents noticed that the child showed no movement. The family immediately rushed the baby to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital for emergency treatment.

However, doctors confirmed that the infant had already died before arriving at the hospital. The sudden death shocked the family and neighbours, while authorities started inquiries into the incident.

Sudden Death Investigation Officer Namasivayam Premkumar conducted the initial inquiry into the child’s death. During the investigation, officials examined the circumstances surrounding the incident and recorded statements from the family members.

As doctors could not immediately determine the exact cause of death, authorities decided to carry out further medical examinations. Investigators sent body samples from the infant to Colombo for detailed forensic testing and analysis.Meanwhile, the tragic incident has drawn attention from the local community, with many expressing sympathy and condolences to the grieving parents.
