A foreign national was arrested early this morning at Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake by Customs Narcotics Control Unit officers. The suspect was apprehended for attempting to smuggle a large quantity of illegal drugs into Sri Lanka.

Drugs Worth Rs. 28.7 Million Seized

Authorities revealed that the suspect was in possession of “Kush” narcotics valued at approximately Rs. 28.7 million. During initial investigations, it was discovered that the 24-year-old Indian national had carefully concealed the drugs inside his luggage using a highly sophisticated method.

Officials recovered around 2 kilograms and 87 grams of the narcotic substance from the suspect’s baggage. The drugs had reportedly been purchased in Bangkok, Thailand, before being transported to Sri Lanka.

Further Legal Action Underway

According to officials, the suspect had traveled from Bangkok and arrived in Sri Lanka via Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on a Malaysia Airlines flight (MH-179) earlier today. Upon inspection of his luggage, Customs officers detected the drugs hidden within a cardboard box attached inside the suitcase.
