The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) announced that all required officials and designated individuals must submit their 2026 annual asset and liability declarations by June 30.
The commission enforces this requirement under Section 80(1) of Sri Lanka’s Anti-Corruption Act No. 9 of 2023. Director General R.S.T. Jayanayake confirmed that authorities will strictly enforce compliance and take legal action against anyone who fails to meet the deadline.
New Law Expands Scope of Officials and Institutions.
The updated legal framework requires both previously registered individuals under the 1975 Act No. 1 and newly included categories of professionals to submit their declarations. The law now covers trade union executive officers, media company owners, newspaper editors, editorial board members, private radio and television station owners and staff, national sports association officials, and customs department officers.
Officials state that this expansion aims to improve transparency and strengthen accountability across both public and private sectors.
Electronic Filing System Becomes Mandatory.
Starting this year, all asset and liability declarations must be submitted exclusively through a centralized electronic system. Authorities say this digital platform improves efficiency, reduces delays, and strengthens data management. CIABOC further warned that it will reject incomplete submissions and initiate legal proceedings against those who miss the June 30 deadline.
Officials also urged all relevant parties to complete submissions early to avoid technical issues and ensure full compliance with the new system.
