A new chapter in Sri Lanka–Maldives diplomatic ties begins

Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu arrived in Sri Lanka this evening for an official visit, marking an important diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

He landed at Bandaranaike International Airport at around 5:35 PM on May 3, traveling on a SriLankan Airlines flight.

Warm Welcome by Sri Lankan Leadership

Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya officially welcomed President Muizzu and his delegation upon arrival.

An official state reception will take place tomorrow at 10:00 AM under the leadership of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, highlighting the importance of this diplomatic visit.

President Muizzu is visiting Sri Lanka for the first time since assuming office in 2023. He is accompanied by his wife and a delegation of 20 senior Maldivian officials.
