A brave attempt to save a student ended in tragedy at Kirinda Beach.

A school principal lost his life after he rushed into the sea to rescue a student during an educational trip in Kirinda, police confirmed.

Teachers and students from a school in the Badalkumbura area visited Kirinda as part of an educational excursion. During the visit, several students entered the sea for bathing activities. At that moment, strong waves pulled a female student further into the water.

The principal immediately noticed the danger and swam into the sea to save the student. He managed to reach the student, but both of them struggled against the rough waters and started drowning. Witnesses quickly alerted the police and nearby residents.

Rescue Teams Recover Principal and Student.

Officers from the police lifesaving unit joined local residents in a rescue operation. Rescue teams brought both the principal and the student ashore and rushed them to the Debarawewa Base Hospital at around 5.00 p.m

Doctors and medical staff provided emergency treatment after their admission to the hospital. However, hospital sources later confirmed the death of the principal. The student continues to receive medical attention.

The tragic incident shocked the school community and residents in the area. Many people praised the principal’s bravery and selfless action in attempting to protect the student’s life. Police officers continue investigations into the incident while authorities urge the public to remain cautious when entering the sea, especially during rough weather conditions.
