A tragic road accident on the Jaffna–Kandy main road claimed the life of a young husband and left his wife seriously injured on Friday (29), according to the Iratperiyakulam Police in Vavuniya.
The accident occurred in front of the Iratperiyakulam Police Station when a luxury passenger bus travelling from Colombo towards Vavuniya collided with a motorcycle carrying the couple. Police confirmed that the victims came from the Periya Ulukkulam area in Vavuniya.
Collision Near Police Station Turns Fatal.
The 30-year-old man rode the motorcycle with his wife when the speeding luxury bus struck them along the busy highway. The impact threw both victims onto the road and caused severe injuries.
Emergency responders rushed the couple to the Vavuniya General Hospital immediately after the accident. However, doctors pronounced the husband dead upon admission due to the seriousness of his injuries.
Wife Receives Treatment as Police Arrest Bus Driver.
The victim’s wife suffered major injuries in the crash and currently receives treatment at the Vavuniya General Hospital. Hospital sources described her condition as serious but stable.
Meanwhile, police officers arrested the driver of the luxury bus following the incident. Investigators launched further inquiries to determine the exact cause of the collision and whether reckless driving contributed to the fatal accident.
