School Absenteeism Rises as Parents Face Financial Pressure.

Education crisis deepens as costs push students away from schools

Sri Lanka Teachers’ Union General Secretary Joseph Stalin says school absenteeism rises mainly because parents cannot manage increasing school-related expenses. He explains that many schools collect money for different activities, and these recurring costs create a heavy financial burden for families. He says this situation directly affects school attendance, especially among low-income households.

Teachers’ Union Blames Education Ministry for Policy Failures.

Stalin criticizes the Ministry of Education for failing to address the growing crisis in the education system. He says authorities do not properly identify why students stay away from school and do not introduce effective solutions. He urges the ministry and school administrations to work together and take immediate steps to improve attendance and reduce dropout risks.

Private Tuition Growth Increases Burden on Students and Families.

Stalin highlights that private tuition classes expand rapidly across the country and add further pressure on students and parents. He says this parallel education system increases overall education costs and creates inequality among students. He warns that weak administrative decisions and poor policy planning continue to damage the national education system and affect students’ future prospects.
