Protest Campaign Begins Demanding Release of Former Intelligence Chief Suresh Sallay.

Public campaign gains momentum as protesters demand justice, transparency, and the immediate release of Suresh Sallay.

A group of civil society organizations and political parties will launch a satyagraha protest today (June 8) in support of former State Intelligence Service Director, retired Major General Suresh Sallay. Organizers plan to begin the demonstration at around 10:00 a.m. in front of the Colombo Fort Railway Station.

The campaign, titled “Stand Up for Sallay,” seeks to secure the immediate release of the retired military officer. Protest organizers argue that authorities have treated Sallay unfairly and insist that he deserves justice through a transparent legal process. Several organizations have already expressed their support for the protest and pledged to participate in the campaign.

Organizers Call for Immediate Release.

Protest leaders demand the immediate release of Suresh Sallay and criticize what they describe as unfair investigative practices. They specifically accuse Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Shani Abeysekara of conducting a one-sided inquiry into the allegations against the former intelligence chief.

According to the organizers, authorities should respect due process and ensure equal treatment under the law. They maintain that investigators should examine all allegations independently and without prejudice.

Continuous Satyagraha Planned.

To strengthen their demands, organizers have decided to continue the satyagraha protest beyond its opening day. They believe a sustained public campaign will draw greater attention to their concerns and encourage authorities to review the case more carefully.

Participants intend to use peaceful and non-violent methods throughout the protest. Organizers say they will continue their efforts until authorities address their demands regarding Sallay’s release and conduct what they describe as a fair, impartial, and independent investigation into the allegations against him.
