Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has been instructed to submit his declaration of assets and liabilities within two weeks, following a request for an extension.
Rajapaksa had previously requested a longer period to submit his asset declaration through an affidavit filed by his legal counsel. He stated that additional time was needed to review detailed information related to his assets and liabilities before submission.
Two-Week Deadline

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption has now formally informed him via letter, issued last Tuesday, that the declaration must be submitted within two weeks.
Earlier, the Commission had instructed Rajapaksa to submit the affidavit before the 10th of this month. In response, his legal team submitted the affidavit on the 9th, requesting more time.
Investigations Since 2015

Sources indicate that senior officials of the Commission reviewed the request before reaching this decision. The requirement to submit the asset declaration is part of investigations initiated in 2015 concerning Rajapaksa’s assets and liabilities.
Further developments are expected as the deadline approaches.
