Gotabaya Rajapaksa Seeks Court Order to Prevent Arrest.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa moves Court of Appeal to block possible PTA arrest linked to Easter Sunday attack investigations.

Former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has filed a petition before the Court of Appeal seeking an order to prevent his arrest under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) in connection with ongoing investigations into the Easter Sunday terror attacks.

Attorney-at-Law Sanath Wijewardena submitted the petition on his behalf. The petition names the Inspector General of Police, Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Shani Abeysekara, and CID officer Madhawa Gunawardena as respondents.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa argues that authorities may take action against him under the PTA as part of the Easter Sunday attack investigations and has requested judicial intervention to stop any such move.

Petition Challenges Potential PTA Action.

Through the petition, Gotabaya Rajapaksa asks the Court of Appeal to prevent law enforcement authorities from arresting or detaining him under the Prevention of Terrorism Act while investigations continue.

The filing has drawn significant attention from political and legal circles, as it relates to one of Sri Lanka’s most closely watched investigations. The Court of Appeal is expected to consider the petition and determine whether to grant the relief sought by the former president.

Meanwhile, investigators continue to examine matters connected to the Easter Sunday attacks, and the outcome of this legal challenge could influence future developments in the case. Legal observers are also closely watching the responses that the named respondents will submit before the court.
