President joins Avurudu celebrations in cyclone-affected rebuilt home

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake took part in Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebrations held in a newly constructed house in the Kalnewa area of Anuradhapura, which was rebuilt under government funding after damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

Rebuilt Home Under Government Reconstruction Program

The house where the President participated in the festivities is one of six new homes being constructed in the Kalnewa Divisional Secretariat area for families whose houses were completely destroyed by the cyclone in November. According to official sources, the reconstruction was completed within five months using compensation provided by the government.

Authorities also confirmed that compensation payments for 66 partially damaged houses in the same division have already been completed.

President Joins Traditional New Year Rituals

President Dissanayake attended the auspicious Sinhala and Tamil New Year rituals held on the morning of the 14th. His participation highlighted the cultural significance of the season and the government’s efforts to support affected families during recovery.

Message on Social Media

In a Facebook post, the President noted that the rapid reconstruction of fully damaged houses was a significant achievement under the compensation program. He expressed satisfaction that the families were able to celebrate the New Year in renewed homes within a short period.

He also emphasized that despite various challenges and global crises, the people of Sri Lanka continue to rebuild with resilience and unity, making the New Year a moment of shared happiness.
