A shooting incident took place in the Masjid Road area of Wettumakada in Kalutara at around 8.59 a.m. on the 28th morning. Police report that a gunman opened fire while a trader rode a scooter through the area. Investigators say a suspect arrived in a car and targeted the victim during the attack.
Eyewitness accounts indicate that the assailant followed the victim briefly before firing multiple shots. Residents in the area reacted in shock and alerted emergency services immediately after hearing gunfire. Police units reached the scene quickly and secured the location for further investigation.
Death at Hospital and Progress of Investigation.
Police immediately took the seriously injured businessman to Nagoda Hospital after the shooting incident. Medical staff admitted him to the emergency unit and provided intensive treatment. However, hospital sources confirmed that he died despite all medical efforts.

Following this incident, the Kalutara Police have intensified their investigation by deploying three separate teams. Officials stated that the suspect fled the scene in a car immediately after the shooting.
