Fuel Concession Plan to End in June, Government Confirms Review.

Government to assess economic conditions before deciding on any new fuel relief measures after June.

Deputy Minister of Finance Anil Jayantha Fernando stated that the government’s three-month fuel concession program will end by the end of June. He explained that the government introduced the scheme as a temporary relief measure to reduce the impact of rising global fuel prices on the public. Officials monitored international fuel price changes and assessed how those changes affected local pricing and consumer burden throughout the period.

Government Reports Revenue Growth and Fiscal Strength.

The Deputy Minister said government revenue collection reached 120% of the target as of June 8. He added that this stronger-than-expected revenue performance gives the government more flexibility to manage any unexpected economic challenges. He also noted that the administration will not automatically extend the current concession but will review the situation at the end of June before making a decision.

Future Relief Decisions Depend on Economic Conditions.

Fernando further explained that the government remains prepared to respond if global fuel prices rise sharply or if domestic economic pressures increase. He emphasized that future relief measures will depend on real-time economic conditions rather than fixed commitments. According to him, the government will balance fiscal discipline with public support and take action if people face unexpected financial strain after the current plan ends.
