A woman died on the spot after a train struck her near the Wellawatte Railway Station in Colombo on Saturday evening. Wellawatte Railway Station Police officers from the Sri Lanka Police launched a special investigation into the tragic incident.
The train travelled from Panadura towards Colombo Fort when the accident took place near the railway line. Investigators have not yet confirmed the identity or address of the deceased woman.
Police Release Details to Identify Victim.
According to investigators, the woman wore a white and brown mixed saree at the time of the accident. Police officers also recovered a green handbag from the scene. Authorities believe these details may help the public identify the victim quickly.
Officials requested anyone with information about the woman to contact the Wellawatte Police Station immediately.
Body Sent for Post-Mortem Examination.
Police officers responded to the scene shortly after the accident and moved the body to the mortuary of Kalubowila Teaching Hospital for post-mortem examinations.
Authorities urged relatives or anyone who recognizes the victim to contact either the Wellawatte Police Station or Kalubowila Hospital without delay. Police teams continue further investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatal accident.
