Drug Trafficker Linked to “Dematagoda Saminda” Arrested with Ice in Nawalapitiya.

Police arrested a close associate of notorious Colombo drug trafficker “Dematagoda Saminda” during a raid carried out in the Nawalapitiya area on Thursday, May 29, 2026. Officers from the Nawalapitiya Police launched the operation after receiving intelligence that the suspect had been hiding in the Palleagama area.

The suspect, a resident of Padukka, allegedly engaged in drug trafficking activities for a long period. Police officers had searched for him for several months in connection with several narcotics-related investigations.

During the raid, officers recovered five grams of “Ice,” a dangerous crystal methamphetamine drug, from the suspect’s possession.

Police Officer Injured During Arrest Attempt.

Police stated that the suspect attempted to resist arrest and attacked officers during the operation. As a result, one police officer sustained injuries and later received treatment at the Nawalapitiya District Hospital.

Authorities quickly brought the situation under control and successfully took the suspect into custody. Investigators believe the arrest could help uncover further information about organized drug trafficking networks operating in Colombo and several suburban areas.

Investigation into Drug Network Continues.

Police have intensified investigations to identify other individuals connected to the suspect and his alleged narcotics operations. Officers also continue efforts to track down additional members believed to have links with the criminal network associated with “Dematagoda Saminda.”

The Nawalapitiya Police continue further investigations into the incident and expect to produce the suspect before court in the coming days.
