Former Minister Basil Rajapaksa now faces another court order linked to the alleged misuse of public funds during the 2014 Uva Provincial Council election campaign.
Earlier, the Matara Magistrate’s Court issued an order to arrest Basil Rajapaksa. Following that decision, Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara issued another arrest order yesterday (29).
CID Reveals Alleged Misuse of Rs. 7.8 million.

The court issued the latest order after investigators accused Basil Rajapaksa of misusing Rs. 7.8 million belonging to the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau. Authorities claim that the funds supported election propaganda activities during the 2014 Uva Provincial Council election campaign.
Officials from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) informed the court that they visited the residences of the suspects to carry out the arrests. However, the officers failed to locate any of the suspects at their homes.
12,000 T-Shirts Distributed During Election Campaign.

According to CID officers, authorities used public money to print nearly 12,000 T-shirts for political campaign activities. Investigators revealed that one side of the T-shirts carried the photograph of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, while the other side displayed the name of a political party.
Police stated that campaign organizers distributed the T-shirts during political rallies and election propaganda events held across the Monaragala District.
The investigation continues as CID officers attempt to locate the suspects and gather further evidence related to the alleged financial irregularities.
