Police in the Batticaloa District arrested a 60-year-old father under sexual abuse laws after his 24-year-old daughter accused him of repeatedly using obscene and inappropriate language toward her.
The arrest took place on Monday night (01) following a complaint that the young woman submitted online to the Inspector General of Police (IGP). In her complaint, she stated that her father continuously spoke to her in a sexually offensive manner and created an unbearable environment at home.
Complaint Sent to Local Police for Immediate Action.
After receiving the complaint, the IGP’s office forwarded the details to the relevant police station in the Batticaloa area. Police officers then launched an investigation and summoned the suspect to the station on the same night.
Authorities identified the suspect as an employee at a liquor sales outlet. Officers questioned him at the police station before taking him into custody under suspicion of violating laws related to sexual harassment and abuse.
Police Discover Obscene Content on Suspect’s Mobile Phone.
During the preliminary investigation, police examined the suspect’s mobile phone and discovered a large collection of obscene photos and videos stored on the device.
Investigators believe the material may support the allegations raised by the complainant. Police officers continue further inquiries into the incident while preparing to produce the suspect before court.
