Member of Parliament K. Ilankumaran announced that Sri Lankan authorities have expanded the search operation for the missing fishermen who left from Point Pedro for fishing activities. He stated that the government secured permission from the Indian authorities to carry out search efforts near the Indian maritime boundary.
Speaking at a media briefing held in Jaffna yesterday (30), the parliamentarian explained that the Sri Lankan Navy continues extensive search operations across the northern seas. Authorities widened the operation after the fishermen failed to return from their fishing trip. Search teams now patrol areas closer to the Indian maritime zone in an effort to trace the missing boat and its crew.

K. Ilankumaran further stated that officials attempted to locate the missing fishermen through GPS tracking systems connected to the fishing vessel. However, the teams could not identify the exact location of the boat despite continuous monitoring efforts.
He also confirmed that the Sri Lankan Navy deployed drones to strengthen the search mission across the sea region. According to him, naval teams continue coordinated operations day and night while maintaining communication with Indian authorities. Families of the missing fishermen remain deeply concerned as rescue teams intensify efforts to locate the crew safely.
