President Assures Fuel Supply Despite Price Increase.

Government vows to maintain fuel and essential goods supply while managing economic challenges.

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has assured that Sri Lanka will not allow any fuel shortages despite the recent increase in fuel prices. Speaking during a recent Cabinet meeting, the President stressed the importance of maintaining a continuous supply of essential commodities and energy resources across the country.

During the discussion, Cabinet members reviewed the fuel price revision and the foreign exchange challenges currently affecting the economy. The President emphasized that the government remains committed to preventing any disruption that could negatively impact the public and economic activities.

Rising Import Costs Increase Economic Pressure.

President Dissanayake pointed out that the country’s import expenditure exceeded two billion US dollars by the end of April this year. He explained that the government introduced additional charges on vehicle imports as part of broader efforts to protect the nation’s foreign currency reserves.

According to the President, managing foreign exchange resources remains a key priority as Sri Lanka continues its economic recovery. He noted that controlling unnecessary imports would help reduce pressure on the country’s dollar reserves and support long-term financial stability.

Government Focuses on Preventing Shortages.

The President warned that shortages of fuel, fertilizer, or other critical supplies could create serious risks for the country. For that reason, the government continues to take proactive measures to ensure that essential goods remain available in the market.

He also stated that authorities will maintain a steady supply of necessary products even if market prices continue to rise. Furthermore, the President informed the Cabinet that the government plans to introduce additional special measures in the future to reduce import-related expenses and strengthen the country’s economic position.
