Ragama Police arrested two suspects yesterday during a raid for allegedly cutting and stealing telecommunication tower cables. The suspects are aged 27 and 34 and are residents of Rathupaswala and Kadawatha, police said.
During investigations, it was revealed that they had stolen cables worth approximately Rs. 922,750. Police also recovered 17 grams and 700 milligrams of the narcotic drug known as “Ice” from their possession. A portion of the stolen cables was also seized during further inquiries. Ragama Police are continuing investigations into the incident.
Suspect Arrested in Connection with Multiple Property Theft Cases in Moratuwa.

Moratuwa Police arrested a wanted suspect yesterday during a crime prevention operation in connection with several property theft cases.
The arrested individual is a 51-year-old resident of Rawathawatta, police said. Investigations revealed that he had stolen telephone cables worth around Rs. 180,000 in the Moratuwa area, as well as breaking into houses and stealing property.Police also recovered a stolen television and a bundle of copper wires from his possession. Further investigations indicate that he is linked to multiple theft incidents.

Moratuwa and Ragama Police are continuing intensive investigations into both incidents. Authorities have expressed concern over the increasing number of cable thefts targeting telecommunication infrastructure.
Investigations are ongoing into the suspects’ network connections and possible links to other property crimes. Police also stated that security monitoring has been strengthened to prevent similar incidents in the future.
